Using the Correct Desk?
Keeping up with the pace of our job demands may be challenging but satisfying. This motivation can distract us from attending to our own body. If your work environment is slowly devouring your health, your job satisfaction may start to crumble. On that account, ergonomics becomes increasingly relevant for people at a computer all day. Paying attention to the correct ways of maintaining the proper balance between work and health.
Let’s start off where the (work) magic all happens…your desk. Does it fit you at your seated hight? If you get tight in the hips and or lower back, can you stand? Does it have the real estate you need? Can you reach items easily or quickly front face your work?
If your answers are all “yes”, great job! Sometimes, it is good to check out what colleagues are doing or pictures on Pinterest. There’s always someone with a cooler or snazzier workstation but is it really better or is the grass greener on the other side? It is best to try out a software training module on proper setup and techniques to really delve into what are the actual important features of a desk. This is usually the best first step, even before consulting a professional.
WHY THE DESK IS SO IMPORTANT?
Incongruences with desk setup can lead to the impression the chair, displays, etc. are off. Everything is connected and to ensure proper setup “fit”, the desk can be the problem you are not looking at.
