Designed especially to promote proper shoulder postures when using mouse.
A keyboard tray that focuses on keeping the mouse closer to the body.
This cool design allows the user to have their mouse platform closer to the body which reduces flexion and external shoulder rotation of the shoulder on side mouse is used. This is a common issue for a lot of mouse users, they extend their arm far away from their body, and therefore tend to need to perch their palm in front of the mouse. Keep in mind that the mouse is especially placed out side of range when you use a full sized keyboard that has a numeric keypad attached. The posture of extending the arm that uses the mouse puts pressure on the soft and vulnerable structures of the wrist as well as encourages awkward deviation motions of the wrist. The wrist is frequently overused, which is why it is particularly important to keep using the entire arm and this keyboard tray allows the user to keep their arms in.
One of the excellent features of this keyboard tray is the mouse platform can slide easily between the right and left sides. This is especially handy for those who switch between right hand left hand use. Some individuals do use other peripheral devices on both sides which is a deal breaker for selecting this tray. Examples include using two mice (typically a standard mouse and trackpad together) or using a scrolling device (such as the Griffin Powermate).
Some computer users prefer a large plain rectangular flat board. That’s ok, but that’s not a strong point of this keyboard tray. This has more of a compact and fitting design that matches the body. Workrite makes excellent products and you can rely on their keyboard trays. As a common solution seen in many corporate companies, this keyboard tray has plenty tilt adjustment and vertical adjustment to get the board at just the right height and angle.
The keyboard and mouse surface height, sometimes referred to as the work surface height, is one of the most critical measurements in terms of your workstation fit. If the work surface height is off, then it can compromise the postures in your spine, shoulders, and entire arms. When selecting a tray, be sure to look at the track length to ensure it can be mounted under your desk, look at the height range of the tray to make sure it matches your seated elbow height, and also ensure that the keyboard tray fits all of your devices. Then you’re pretty much good to go!
If you have one, remember that a slight negative tilt (i.e. -3 deg.) is typically better for the postures of your wrist when typing unless you are not a touch typist (don’t look at the keys when you type).
